Work placements, also called work experience, are short periods of time where you attend an organisation to see what they do and what people working there do. You may shadow someone on a job. You are not required to work there like a full-time employee, perform in the role or deliver the same work as someone employed there. However, you may be asked to help out with some tasks as a mean for you to experience what it is like.
Work placements in the UK are usually unpaid and do not normally last more than a week at a time; maximum two weeks in a row. If they last more than two weeks, for example, for a full month as a summer placement, you may receive payment for expenses (such as your train fare to get there).
